Mighty Good Stuff: Meet the Mother-Daughter Duo Making a Sustainable Household Accessible for All

Founded by an immeasurably impressive and utterly admirable mother-daughter duo, Mighty Good Stuff is a company focused on providing top-notch products that are not only stylish and high-quality, but also environmentally friendly.

They have a wide range of offerings including cleaning products, home goods and clothing – essentially a one-stop shop for all your sustainable buys – each item designed with the planet in mind.

Another thing that sets Mighty Good Stuff apart from the crowd, aside from their brilliant founders, is their commitment to using eco-friendly materials and manufacturing processes. Firstly, they work with fair trade manufacturers and ensure that workers are paid a living wage. Secondly, they prioritise using organic and sustainable ingredients, recycled materials, and non-toxic dyes. This means you can feel good about the positive impact you’re making on the environment with each purchase.

We spoke to Pam, co-founder of Mighty Good Stuff and mother of bright spark Monique, about the business, their story and sustainability in general…

How would you describe Mighty Good Stuff as a business?

“It’s more than just a business. Monique is 16, we want to give people of her generation some hope and food-for-thought. The whole purpose is to convey a message that Monique is trying to get across – that we can do this together; if everybody does one wonderful thing, it will have a butterfly effect, and we can make a difference.”

What makes your products better than your competitors?

“Firstly, we offer a quite a big suite of products. One of the things that really frustrated me was having to put my credit card into lots of different people’s websites that I didn’t know, in order to shop sustainably. None of them seemed to have everything. What we have created is a suite of products that the average family needs, all of them completely sustainable.”

“The second reason is price, for sure. If you look at the price for our cleaning pod, for example, we’re almost half the price of some our competitors’ products.”

“Thirdly, we do NO greenwashing. Some competitors ship products from abroad using plastic film on the outside made from polymers, which are made from petroleum – it’s not very eco. Monique is so meticulous about trying to make sure that there is absolutely zero greenwashing because a lot of people, including her, are fed up with it.”

Given that the margins are so tight and there are bigger companies out there gaining millions of customers through greenwashing, do you see this being sustainable financially?

I love that Mighty Good Stuff is making sustainability accessible and stylish, while inspiring and providing hope to younger generations. Their products prove that you don’t have to sacrifice quality in the name of ethics. So, if you’re looking for products that are ‘mighty good’ for you and the planet, Mighty Good Stuff is definitely a company worth checking out.

“I say to Monique, if you want this to keep going, you’ve got to make money. She says, it will make money once people hear about it, trial it and love it, then we can scale. Once that happens we’ll be able to, you know, get better supplies etc. So, I’m trusting that her young wisdom will remain true. The idea is to become what we like to call a market shaker; a market shaker is historically when a product disrupts a market where equal products are expensive, meaning that only rich people or those who really want to invest can purchase. We want to say is no, everybody should be able to do it regardless of their circumstances.”
